Directing
Creating compelling stories for modern audiences.
Artist statement
I create visually compelling stories that foster the growth of and expand viewpoints of an audiences worldview.
I grew up in a very conservative Southern town. Difficult subjects were not talked about or even lightly discussed. To do so was not just taboo, but socially unacceptable. It was only as a frustrated young teen that I travelled to New York and stumbled off the beaten path into an off-off broadway theater show that I found some answers. There is a venue where hard topics COULD be broached. Moreover, they could be EXPLORED in a setting that people were willing to see and discuss. Somehow, this medium cut through all the red tape of censorship and was seen as not only healthy to talk about, but freely encouraged. This moment has driven me to study theater and find the deeper truth in the stories that surround us.
Today, I use theater and storytelling as a medium to bring the stories point of view to life and to bring the audience closer to a story’s deeper themes. My focus and goal is to immerse an audience member and blur the line between passive spectator and active participant. I want to create that same feeling that I had as a kid. I fell into the story, and I never really found my way out.
I would love to talk with you further about how I can bring your stories to life. Let’s get in touch!
